TreadShare: The carpooling app made for Colorado is teaming up with local ski resorts | Here’s what you need to know

Around this time of year, when the stress of the holidays has subsided and we reset our lives, we all have our own vices to find peace and comfort. One activity Coloradans love to indulge in is a sick rip down the mountain, but sometimes the biggest hurdle is getting there. Whether you’re a novice on the slopes or a fresh-powder-pro, TreadShare elevates your weekend ski trip by allowing riders/drivers to split the cost of gas and reduce emissions by carpooling with fellow ski fanatics. This ski season, TreadShare is teaming up with local ski resorts Arapahoe Basin and Winter Park to offer more perks than before, including a free Phunkshun Wear ski mask as well as a chance to win season passes for next year’s 23/24 ski season.

New year means new opportunities and TreadShare is taking that to heart. TreadShare is teaming up with local ski resorts A-Basin and Winter Park to boost your experience. During this 22/23 ski season, each successful carpool trip with TreadShare will double as a chance to win a ski pass to A-basin or Winter Park Resort for the 23/24 ski season. The best part? The more trips you take using TreadShare, the more chances you have to win!

Get a free Phunkshun Wear ski mask for carpooling to Winter Park Resort

On the off chance that you are not interested in a chance at winning a free ski pass for next season, (I mean, who wouldn’t be?) Winter Park is also offering a Phunkshun Wear mask to riders and drivers that complete a trip to the park with TreadShare (1). Not only are you receiving free ski gear for reducing your carbon footprint by carpooling, but Phunkshun wear masks are made right here in Colorado using recycled plastic water bottles. Earning one of these masks is simple: complete a successful ride with TreadShare, follow instructions in a post-trip email and redeem your free mask straight from the resort.

It’s not just us, ski resorts are changing the rules to encourage ride-sharing amongst visitors

As of the new year, Arapahoe Basin has announced some changes to their parking system in order to promote carpooling among weekend-trippers. The Early-Riser lot now welcomes people traveling with three or more people on Saturdays, Sundays and any major holidays to park for free. Plus, if you are traveling in an electric vehicle, you may enjoy a short walk to the lifts as A-Basin offers charging stations right at the front of the lot. As an added bonus, enjoy free parking as an electric-vehicle driver. Any vehicles that do not travel with three or more passengers or without an electric vehicle will be charged $20 to park in the Early-Riser lot.

The High Noon and Last chance parking lots will still offer free parking all day. These lots also have a parking shuttle that services on weekends and holidays. Although both of these lots are a walkable distance to the bay area. A-basin announced these changes to their parking structure noting that their decision has nothing to do with financial gain and everything to do with promoting their already existing sustainability goals.

Still not convinced? The benefits of carpooling extend beyond a shared ride

Sharing a car journey with other people utilizing TreadShare helps reduce the cost of transportation for riders and drivers, with passengers paying as little as $2 per person one-way (2). Outside of decreasing costs of gas for riders, carpooling also helps to reduce the number of cars on the road, which can lead to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved air quality. Additionally, with less solo drivers comes less traffic congestion and a shorter commute time to your destination. Moreover, utilizing ride-sharing apps such as TreadShare offers a more convenient trip than taking public transportation, especially if you have a flexible schedule or if public transportation is not available in your area.

Let’s not forget about the social benefits. Choosing to carpool can be a great way to meet new people and make connections. Similarly, carpooling can take some of the stress out of commuting, as a rider you can relax and chat with other passengers instead of having to focus on driving. Who knows, striking up a conversation with the person next to you on your journey may lead to a lift ride with a new friend!

What more can we say?

However you choose to spend your weekend, we can all agree that driving through hours of congested I-70 traffic sort’ve kills the vibe. But you don’t want to be those people who didn’t look to carpool or use public transportation. By choosing to take your ride up to the mountains with TreadShare, you elevate your skiing experience beyond comparison, while also reducing your carbon footprint. Utilize TreadShare this season to grab a chance at those season ski passes for next year, and maybe make some new friends along the way!

1 - This offer is limited to one mask per person per day

2 - Pricing is dependent on driver’s price selection while remaining below the cost of driving, i.e. drivers can’t make a profit
