Last-Minute Valentine's Day: Carpool To A Mountain Getaway With TreadShare

Still no plans for Tuesday, February 14th? We’ve got you covered. Take your soulmate on a trip into the mountains where you are sure to catch some views that will give you heart-eyes. Better yet, gather a group to double the fun on a double-date (while also potentially lowering the overall cost of your experience). Whether you’re an outdoor guru or a cabin comfy queen, we have found some of the most romance-ready activities to treat yourself or your partner to during this year’s love themed holiday.

Let’s go to the mountains…

Planning a last minute trip, especially a meaningful one, can bring on some unwanted stresses. One of the first things you are going to want to do is secure your activities for the day, as well as your gear if you plan to ski or snowboard. If you are in need of a spot to find rental gear, check out one of our latest blogs here, where we detail some local Colorado ski shops offering rentals this season. Although we are down to the wire on time, take a deep breath and check out some of these events located in Winterpark, Steamboat Springs and A-basin during the upcoming week.

Valentine's day in the mountains

Arapahoe Basin’s V-day Dinner and Dancing

After a long day of hitting the slopes, head to local 6th Alley Bar and Grill for an italian dinner, salsa lessons and glasses of bubbly. The evening will feature a 3-course meal for guests including a fixed menu for the evening. Reservations are required to attend this event for just one cent and the cost per person to attend is $70. Although this is one of the pricier options, dancing and dinner after an active day on the hill sounds like the perfect way to tie a bow on your romantic getaway.

Steamboat Springs “Light Up The Night” Celebration

Hosted the weekend after V-day, Steamboat Springs’ Light Up The Night celebration is one you are sure to not forget. Six hot air balloons light up the night between 5:30-6:30pm. Depending on your preference, walk amongst the balloons or watch from afar, whilst enjoying dinner from a local eatery of course! Timber and Torch will add excitement to your adventure with night skiing on Steamboat’s famous Champagne Powder and of course some after-slope dinner and drinks. Rounding off the night will be a romantic fireworks display and a fun-filled parade.

Adventures Decanted in Winter Park

Adventures Decanted in Winter Park is offering a specially curated fixed menu for your romantic mountaintop weekend. With gorgeous scenery and an optional wine pairing, this luxurious yet comfortable location is the perfect setting for an intimate yet lively Valentine’s dinner. Adventures Decanted also offers après ski every day from 3pm until 5pm. So if you’re looking for a romantic spot to grab a glass of wine before retiring with takeout in the hotel room or journeying home, this spot is perfect for you.

Maybe not in the mountains, but just as romantic!

Perhaps a road trip isn’t in the books for your Valentine's day. As the cost of living rises daily, it’s important to remind ourselves that memorable experiences don’t have to break the bank. Contrary to popular belief, this romantic holiday doesn’t require maxing out your wallet on travel and excursion, rather it simply asks that you spend some time with whom you love. Plus, sometimes a simple celebration is more meaningful than something more extravagant!

Valentine's day

Here are a few ideas to hopefully get you started on planning your cost-effective Valentines Day:

  • Set out for a romantic picnic. All you really need are a basket and a blanket. Some of yours and your partner’s favorite snacks, drinks, music, and books or poetry are sure to set the mood.

  • Set up for a movie night in. Pick out a movie together, pop some popcorn and snuggle up under a blanket.

  • Make a homemade meal. Instead of going out to a restaurant, try out a new recipe together or have a go at your favorite dishes

  • DIY Gifts. The most meaningful gifts are from the heart. Anything from a homemade card to a jar of random date ideas for you to enjoy together can say “i love you” more than words themselves.

As always, if you are considering taking a trip up to the mountains, remember to keep your mother in mind! No, not your actual mother… but the earth. There is nothing romantic about driving separate cars to meet your friends at the same ski resort. Give your trip the added bonus of making memories with other couples or solo travelers by utilizing ride sharing or carpooling. Better yet, by decreasing everyone’s individual cost of travel, you can use that extra cash for one more glass of wine!
